The best jazz-pop-latin, Christian studio musicians in town are here (Justo Alamario, Raque Pantoja, Eric Persing, etc). You could cut a CD based on what you hear at some services--it's that good musically. Always packed out. Audience consists mostly of boomers and Gen-Xers, but seniors are present too--there's not a conscious effort to target a particular audience. Their music style is a fusion of Rock, Jazz, and Latin influences.
You'll see many happy faces here--the people LOVE to worship! The young people are totally involved. The worship set is about 30 minutes long, and consists mostly of choruses with an occasional hymn. Racially mixed audience. A computer data projector is used for projecting the words of hymns/choruses. The leadership is committed to Worship Evangelism.
About their musicians and CDs:
Justo Alamario, studio musician (sop and tenor sax, flute), is an excellent performer with a great heart for worship. Has two worship CD's of his own.
Rique Pantogja, studio musician (acoustic piano, synths). Has two worship CD's of his own. Originally from Brazil.
Eric Persing, keyboardist, gifted sound designer of CD Rom products, and Roland synths.
The following worship CD's are available for sale in the church lobby: Night Prayers (Rique Pantoja, Tommy Walker), Live Worship (Tommy Walker and the C. A. Worship Band), and Yes We All Agree (C. A. Worship Band).
Their worship is guitar led with strong support from the keyboards (synths, B3 organ), sax/flute, bass, and percussion, and a worship choir/ensemble (background role). The ability of their musicians to improvise is used effectively--sometimes the sax or keyboard or guitar will play a stanza alone in the course of a tune. Every solo, however, contributes to the worship-- they aren't showcasing themselves.
Pastor Mark and Tommy have maintained a productive relationship for almost a decade. They are a remarkable team--and it shows publicly! Pastor Mark is not at all intimidated by the fact that his worship leader may be more famous than himself. In fact, he's a big reason for Tommy's success and probably his biggest supporter. Tommy, guitarist and worship leader, writes many worship songs that are sung around the country, and leads Promise Keeper events. Go, see! These are warm, interesting, humble people.
